His original name, Tut-ankh-Aten, (meaning "living image of Aten")

popularly known as Tutankhamun (meaning "living image of Amun")

was a pharaoh belonging to the eighteenth dynasty of Egypt,
(?, H 1372 -. Thebes, 1354 BC?.).

Tutankhamun was son of Pharaoh Akhenaten, who died without sons;

why was succeeded by his sons, Semenkera and Tutankhamen; the latter, his brother, succeeded to the throne to the 1360 a. C. In fact, until the death of his father, Tutankhamun took Tutankhaten name in honor of the sun god Aten whose cult had driven Akhenaten almost monotheistic character.

Three years after acceding to the throne, the new pharaoh restored the traditional worship and consequently the power of the priests of Amun, seriously weakened in the previous reign; while, returned the capital to Thebes, abandoning the capital created by Akhenaton in Amarna;
and to symbolize these changes, replaced his own name to
Tutankhamun (meaning "the living image of Amun).

The reign of Tutankhamen had no other meaning that the restoration of the traditional order of Pharaonic Egypt, under the influence of priests and general Conservatives.

Tutankhamun died when he was only 18 and had six of his reign, probably in a palace revolt.

Tutankhamen is famous for his tomb was the only tomb in the Valley of the Kings who came without plundering to the contemporary age; its discovery by Howard Carter in 1922
It was a world archaeological event, showing the splendor and wealth of the royal tombs and bringing to light valuable information about the era.

HIS DEATH
On February 17, 2010, the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Cairo (Egypt), reported a series of genetic studies, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)
and carried out over more than two years, which was evident that Tutankhamun died of Mal Kohler (avascular bone necrosis) exacerbated by malaria.

This theory would be supported by the 103 rods and the large number of medicines found in his tomb.

Therefore, it follows that, despite having died just 19 years old, suffered great pain of bones.

They also claimed that the pharaoh was the son of Akhenaten, or at least, the monarch buried in tomb KV55 and her grandmother was Queen Tiye or Tiya. DNA studies conducted on the mummy of Pharaoh Tutankhamun have allowed to find out that the KV55 mummy of Pharaoh was the father-child and son of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Such genetic pattern does conclude that the inhabitants of KV55 none other than Ajenatón.15
The same DNA studies also revealed that the mummy tomb KV35YL discovered beside the mummy of Tiya (KV35EL) and known as the Young Lady, is the real mother of Tutankhamun, also revealed as full sister KV55 mummy. This discovery makes the young pharaoh, at least, the result of a (not uncommon at the time) royal incest, and would (assuming that KV55 is Akhenaten) that King "heretic" conceived her son with one of his sisters, being impossible specify whether it was one of the five daughters of Amenhotep III known and Tiye. But would thus ruled out the hypothesis Kiya.16 Inbreeding, according to the study, explain the accumulation of defects in the young king, as so often has happened in the history of royal dynasties.
